Tory Holt

Well, Titans fans, it looks like the Titans are going to miss out on another good wide receiver. Except this time, the WR we are passing up is going to end up playing in our division. Reports from prosportsdaily.com show that Torry Holt is close to signing a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It is horrible to think that all of the cap room we saved by not signing Haynesworth back, is going to go to waste. Our lone offseason acquisition was WR Nate Washington. Maybe this is what has to happen for the Titans to start spending some money on proven receivers. Maybe letting Torry Holt destroy us for a couple of games this year will open their eyes.

I understand that the Titans go and get what they need to build a tight knit team, but its time that we get some playmaking wide receivers. I think Nate Washington is going to do well for us, but why are the Titans officials sitting on their hands instead of going and getting some guys that could really bolster our roster? 

We tried to trade for Holt before the Rams released him but Holt didn't want to take a pay cut to come to Nashville. I understand that completely. Why would Holt want to come to a team that has a ridiculous amount of cap room but isn't willing to give him the same pay he was making last year? IMO it just shows that the Titans didn't want Holt as bad as the Jaguars did, and now we are going to pay for it.

8 Days Until the 2009 Draft

Titans seem unlikely to make a play at Cleveland Browns WR Edwards or Arizona Cardinals WR Boldin. So it seems as if they are content with their free agent acquisition of WR Nate Washington, and are ready to move toward the draft.

Hopefully this means that they feel they have a good chance of getting Florida WR Percy Harvin. If not, they will probably look at D.J. Moore, DB from Vanderbilt.

Let's talk draft

The NFL draft is just ten days away. One question in particular looms in the minds of all Titans fans: Will the Titans draft a receiver in the first round?

Here is your answer: Probably not.

The Tennessee Titans franchise has not selected a WR in the first round since taking Kevin Dyson out of Utah in 1998.

The only way I see the Titans taking a WR is if Percy Harvin is still on the draft board when we pick.

Otherwise, I see the Titans bolstering their secondary with a DB with their first round pick.

Atlanta Braves

There hasn't been any more talk about Torry Holt since his reaction to the visit last week, but the Titans did sign QB Patrick Ramsey last week. Ramsey will be the 3rd string quarterback.

Although this is a Titans Blog, I would like to point out that the Atlanta Braves, even though the season is 2 games young, are playing baseball as well as they could have hoped. After the afore mentioned 2 games, the Braves revamped pitching staff has proved to be just that by holding the National League's #1 offense from last year to only 1 run in 18 innings. The one run coming from, what seemed to be, opening-day jitters by the Braves closer Mike Gonzalez. The expected lack-of-power lineup has shown plenty of reason for the sports analyst who have labeled them so, to stick their feet in their mouths.

This afternoon, the Braves put Javier Vazquez on the mound against the Phillies and their starter Joe Blanton as they go for the three game sweep. Check it out on Sports South at 3:05 et.

Torry Holt

Last Thursday, veteran wide receiver Torry Holt came to Nashville for a walkthrough and physical tryout for the Titans.

According to Holt's agent, Kennard McGuire, the future hall-of-fame wideout was "very impressed" with every aspect of the Titans organization.

Jeff Fisher commented briefly on the subject by stating, "It's a process, and this is the first step," Fisher said. "we'd been in touch with him several weeks ago and set up the visit. He's visited Jacksonville and visited us. I think it went well, and I'm really excited about what we have to offer. So we'll see where it goes."
